Can I change the battery in my tire pressure sensor?

Most tire pressure sensors are small battery powered devices inside of each tire. They are designed with long lasting batteries that will last about 10 years. However, like all batteries they eventually wear out and will need replacement. Unfortunately, almost all tire pressure sensor batteries can not be changed.

Here is why:

Sealed Unit Design

Tire pressure sensors are built as sealed units. The battery is integrated into the design of the sensor and is sealed in place. Tire pressure sensors live in a harsh environment. The sensors are exposed to high heat from interstate driving, cold temperatures, shock from road conditions and not to mention spinning at a dizzying pace. What your sensor gains in durability it looses in service ability

Battery Lifespan

Your Tire pressure sensor batteries will last about ten years. By that time your batteries die your tire pressure sensors have been used in at least 2 sets of tires and have been used for many years and many miles. Not only is the battery worn out but the sensor is also probably worn from use, water intrusion and maybe even Fix-A-Flat.

In short, if your Tire Pressure Sensor battery needs to be replaced you will most likely need to replace the whole sensor. At Tim’s we offer Tire Pressure Sensor replacements and Tire Pressure Monitor system repairs on most vehicles.
